Logistics Network Change Management

Challenge

Following the purchase of a significant UK based Brewing business the client wished to consolidate and rationalise the Off Trade and Export logistics into its existing logistics network in order to drive logistics optimisation and simplification but also in readiness for going to market as one business across its portfolio of products. The client had a mix of in house & out sourced logistics operations.

approach

SCALA managed the end-to-end logistics changes across the client’s IS, Supply Chain Planning, Finance, Logistics Operations, and Sales teams, ensuring strong project governance and cross-functional coordination. SCALA worked directly with the client’s third-party service providers, including managing the exit from one partner and site and the transition to another partner and site. The project also involved changes to service arrangements with major retailers, with SCALA guiding the client through these changes. SCALA provided “hyper care” support during the project go-live phase before handing over to the client’s business-as-usual teams. The project was successfully delivered within four months of initiation.

Outcome

The client was able to reduce the number of stock holding and despatching DCs from six to five enabling simplification of inventory management and an annual cost efficiency of £400k pa. The project was a key stepping stone for a second business transformation project that enabled the client to move to one business and go to market as one supplier to its customer base in both Off Trade and On Trade sectors
